In winter, the Discovery package offers a similarly effortless experience: Nordic skiing on 85 kilometers of groomed trails, door-to-lift transfers for alpine skiing at Big Sky Resort, guided winter adventures, and our signature Sleigh Ride Dinner.
Do guests stay in a traditional hotel lodge or private cabins?
Exclusively private cabins. Lone Mountain Ranch’s 26 meticulously restored historic log cabins range from intimate one-bedroom sanctuaries to grand six-bedroom family lodges. Originally built in 1915 and set among towering pines, each cabin offers complete privacy and a direct connection to the Montana wilderness.
Are all the cabins identical?
No. Each cabin is architecturally distinct and individually named — no two are alike. When you book at Lone Mountain Ranch, you are reserving a specific, uniquely decorated historic cabin, not a room category.
What modern amenities are inside the cabins?
Each cabin blends authentic character with modern comfort: wood-burning fireplaces, vintage vinyl record players, fully stocked non-alcoholic minibars, en-cabin bathrooms, premium Dyson hair dryers, daily housekeeping, and nightly turndown service.
Are guest laundry facilities available?
Yes. Complimentary laundry facilities are available on property — useful after a day of horseback riding or backcountry exploration in Yellowstone.
Is Lone Mountain Ranch suitable for families, and is there a kids' program?
Yes. The complimentary Lone Mountain Rangers program serves children ages 3 to 14, grouped by age: Cubs (3–7), Wolves (8–11), and Grizzlies (12–14). Programming includes canoeing, high-ropes courses, and guided nature hikes. Parents and grandparents can pursue their own adventures — fly fishing, backcountry hikes, or a quiet afternoon — with complete peace of mind.
Does the ranch operate year-round, and how do summer and winter differ?
Lone Mountain Ranch is a dual-season destination with distinctly different experiences in each. Summer centers on horseback riding, fly fishing on the Gallatin River, and guided Yellowstone wildlife excursions. Winter transforms the property into a Nordic skiing basecamp with 85 kilometers of groomed trails, seamless transfers to Big Sky Resort for alpine skiing, Sleigh Ride Dinners, and guided winter adventures.
Is Lone Mountain Ranch a good base for visiting Yellowstone National Park?
One of the best. The ranch sits just 18 miles from the park boundary — a 45-minute drive to the West Entrance at West Yellowstone. The Summer Discovery package includes expert-led guided driving tours and backcountry hikes into the park, combining wildlife exploration with the ranch’s standard of quiet luxury.
Does Lone Mountain Ranch offer spa and wellness services?
Yes. We have partnered with Santosha Wellness Center, five minutes from the ranch, offering therapeutic massage, Swedish massage, craniosacral therapy, and more. Our transportation team provides complimentary transfers for a seamless experience.
How does Lone Mountain Ranch compare to Paws Up, The Ranch at Rock Creek, or Triple Creek Ranch?

Our 1915 log cabins carry genuine provenance, and no Montana ranch puts guests within reach of both Yellowstone National Park and Big Sky Resort — two entirely different world-class experiences in a single stay. What airport should I fly into, and is airport transportation included?
Fly into Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN), a scenic 50-minute drive from the ranch along the Gallatin River. Bozeman offers nonstop service from a wide network of U.S. markets, making arrival more seamless than many guests expect. Guests on the All-Inclusive Discovery package receive complimentary luxury transfers — a chauffeured drive in our private fleet of SUVs, with no rental cars or rideshares required.
Can I arrange a private airport transfer?
Yes. While shared luxury transfers are complimentary under the Discovery package, guests seeking a dedicated private vehicle and driver can arrange an upgrade through our concierge team prior to arrival.
Is transportation to Big Sky hotels and venues complimentary?
Transportation to restaurants, shops, and hotels in Big Sky Town Center is complimentary from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm. Transportation to specific properties such as One&Only, Montage, or the Yellowstone Club is available for an additional fee — contact our concierge team for current pricing.
Is transportation to Yellowstone National Park included?
Yes. The All-Inclusive Summer Discovery package includes transportation and a guided tour of Yellowstone National Park.

Do I need to make advance dining reservations for Horn & Cantle?
Yes. We recommend making reservations at the time of booking to secure your preferred dates and seating times. Horn & Cantle draws guests from across the valley, and early reservations ensure a seamless experience throughout your stay.
Does the All-Inclusive Summer Discovery package include the Auric Room?
Yes — the package includes a guest pass to the Auric Room 1915. Food and beverage are not included and are available at an additional cost.
Is there a dress code for dining?
At Horn & Cantle, the dress code is Montana mountain casual — jeans, cowboy boots, and comfortable lodge attire are perfectly appropriate for our elevated, welcoming dining room.
The Auric Room 1915 calls for something a touch more considered: sophisticated western dress is encouraged. Sneakers, shorts, hoodies, and t-shirts are not permitted.
Is morning coffee service included?
Yes. Complimentary coffee is delivered to your cabin door by 7:00 am daily, along with your preferred milk.
Can children enter the Auric Room?
No. The Auric Room is a 21+ venue. Children and infants are not permitted.
