Sleigh Ride Dinner Packing List

Sleigh Ride Dinners are a magical evening for all involved, but the temperatures can be frigid. Dress warm for your sleigh ride adventure to the North Fork Cabin!

Know Before You Go!

  1. Check the forecasted temperature for after the sun goes down, as you will be riding to dinner in the dark. The ride is about 20 minutes each way. Wind chill can drop temperatures substantially! It’s a good idea to bring a scarf or balaclava to cover your neck and chin. Insulated boots with good tread or Yak-Trak’s are recommended as you will be making your way over snow to get to your sleigh and to the North Fork Cabin.
  2. Think layers, layers, layers! You will want to dress warm for the outdoors but have the ability to take those thicker layers off as the wood stove keeps the cabin warm and cozy for dinner!
  3. You will want warm gloves and a hat. Hand and toe warmers are a good idea to have for the ride. We sell these in the Outpost if you forget to bring them!
  4. Typically younger guests are happy to have snow pants on if it’s a particularly cold night. Otherwise, most of our guests are happiest in long pants. Each sleigh will have wool blankets on board to place over your lap, but you are welcome to bring your own if you like.
  5. The cabin is small and intimate with limited places to hang additional items. Please leave anything that you don’t think you will need in your car.

Extra Tips

  1. Pack easy to move in base layers, so you can be sure you’re comfortable skiing, snowshoeing, snowboarding, doing yoga, and much more! Note: Uggs are very fashionable and warm, but their soles are SLICK, and provide limited traction, thus making them impractical for walking around the ranch.
  2. The mountains can feel very warm during the day, especially when you’re moving outside in the sun! We recommend bringing a warm, thick jacket and either a vest and sweater or a thinner jacket as well. Layering allows you the freedom to dress for the activity in cold weather activities.
  3. The elevation (7,218’+) can be hard for those who aren’t used to it! We recommend drinking plenty of water and resting your first 24-hours to help acclimate yourself. We do have oxygen available if necessary.
  4. Wool keeps you warm, even when wet, and does, in fact, wick moisture from your body! Synthetic wool blends are fantastic as well, as they do not itch! Wool socks and base layers are essential to your comfort during a Montana winter. Multiple layers, such as a great wool base layer, with fleece, flannel, or down as a secondary layer (use down only if you are covering it with a waterproof top layer), and then your ski clothing on top.
