DISCOVER
Homesteaded in 1915, the Ranch carries more than a century of Montana history, and that history is not something we preserve behind glass. It is something we still live inside. Our cabins, horse program, gathering spaces, and traditions all grow out of a property that has long served as a gateway to this landscape. That continuity gives the Ranch a feeling that is hard to replicate: deeply rooted, unmistakably Montana, and elevated without ever feeling staged.
Big Sky offers exceptional summer accommodations, each with its own philosophy. Some properties are built as self-contained resorts, where the experience is concentrated within a hotel or resort village. Lone Mountain Ranch offers something different. We are a collection of private cabins spread across historic ranchland, with an all-inclusive summer experience designed to connect guests not only to the Ranch itself, but to the broader region. Three meals daily, morning coffee delivered to your cabin, included transportation, horseback riding, guided Yellowstone access, and a curated range of activities are built into the stay. We also offer limited availability bed and breakfast packages for guests seeking a lighter-touch stay.
Lone Mountain Ranch is just a scenic 50-minute drive from Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport, making arrival far more seamless than many travelers expect for a ranch experience of this kind. Bozeman has become one of the most accessible airports in the Mountain West, with nonstop service across a wide network of U.S. markets and strong connectivity from major hubs. That ease of access is part of what makes the Ranch so appealing: guests can leave cities like New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago, or Atlanta in the morning and be settling into a private cabin by the afternoon.
Big Sky’s luxury landscape continues to evolve, with properties such as Montage Big Sky and One&Only Moonlight Basin offering polished, full-service resort experiences built around a more traditional resort model. Lone Mountain Ranch offers a different expression of luxury — one rooted in private cabins, historic ranchland, strong dining and social life, and an all-inclusive experience that connects guests not only to the property itself, but to the broader region, from the Gallatin River to Yellowstone National Park. The question is not which experience is better. It is which philosophy feels more like the Montana you want to experience.
With 53 miles of trails across the Ranch, horseback riding becomes one of the most immersive ways to experience the property and the surrounding country. Every ride is wrangler-led and thoughtfully matched to the guest. Some rides are relaxed and scenic, winding through meadows and lodgepole pines, while more advanced riders may opt for longer, faster rides and a more dynamic experience in the saddle. That range is part of what makes the horse program so compelling.
We are exceptionally well positioned for access to the Gallatin River, one of the iconic rivers of the American West. For many, the Gallatin carries an added sense of mythology through A River Runs Through It, the film that helped introduce Brad Pitt to a wider audience. What matters most here, though, is the experience itself: beautiful nearby water, strong trout habitat, and the chance to spend a day on the river with expert guides in one of the most scenic settings in the region. For both first-timers and seasoned anglers, it is one of the great advantages of summer at the Ranch.
A stay at Lone Mountain Ranch would not be complete without venturing into Yellowstone National Park, and our guided tours offer an intimate, expertly curated way to do it. Guests can choose between the Lower Loop Tour, built around geysers, geothermal features, Yellowstone Lake, Hayden Valley, and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, or the Lamar Valley Tour, which is oriented toward wildlife viewing and includes the chance to experience one of the most ecologically rich parts of the park. Both tours depart from the Ranch, include lunch, and can be tailored to guest interests and conditions, making Yellowstone feel not like a side trip, but like an integrated part of the broader Ranch experience.
The dining and social life of the Ranch are a defining part of what makes summer here feel layered and complete.
Horn & Cantle is the social heart of the Ranch and one of the defining dining experiences in Big Sky. It is where guests return after a day outside for breakfast, dinner, and the kind of atmosphere that makes the Ranch feel both lively and grounded. The food, wine, and sense of place are central to the experience, and for all-inclusive guests, three meals daily are built into the stay.
The Saloon brings a different kind of energy. This is where a Montana evening loosens up — cocktails, western music, and the social buzz that builds after a full day on horseback, on the river, or in the park. It adds a spirited layer to the Ranch without ever feeling forced.
For adults, the experience extends further with access to the Auric Room, our private membership supper club and speakeasy. The Auric Room is a 21+ venue, creating a more intimate, more secluded, and more elevated counterpoint to the openness of the day. It gives adult guests access to a more private and distinctive side of the Ranch’s culinary and social life.
Included with all-inclusive stays, our Tuesday night summer rodeos have become one of the signature experiences of the season. Each week, cowboys and cowgirls compete for bragging rights and the honor of wearing the Ranch Buckle in events rooted in real Western ranch work, including barrel racing, ranch roping, Old West bronc rides, and team sorting. The rodeo is a true Big Sky tradition, bringing together guests, competitors, and locals for an evening that feels lively, authentic, and distinctly Montana. The night also includes an elevated summer cookout along with beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages, making it one of the most vivid expressions of the American West we offer all week.
Sunday nights offer a different ritual. Our Ranch Hall BBQ brings guests together for barbecue, live music, and line dancing in a setting that feels celebratory, relaxed, and unmistakably Western. It is part welcome, part weekly tradition, and part reminder that some of the best moments at the Ranch happen when everyone comes together at the end of the day.
That is the shape of summer at Lone Mountain Ranch.
Adventure by Day. Luxury by Night.
